If your teeth are showing your age, WY Implants and Surgical Arts can help. Cosmetic dentistry is an important field that can correct some of the naturally occurring dental problems that many people face.
The most common reason that patients consult with Dr. Haque about cosmetic dentistry is because of their gums—either too little or too much gum tissue is affecting their confidence and oral health.
Crown lengthening and connective tissue grafts are two of the cosmetic procedures offered by our offices in Casper, Rock Springs, and Lander. If you are wondering how to fix a gummy smile or if your gums have eroded to expose too much of your tooth, contact us for a consultation.
Tissue grafting and crown lengthening are both procedures that can repair life-long dental problems.
For tissue grafting, benefits include:
Benefits of crown lengthening are:
Both of these cosmetic procedures are safe and have a short recovery time. Most patients are able to return to work the next day. Some tenderness is normal, with full recovery in about a week.
Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure used for gummy smile correction. A “gummy smile” is a term used to describe excessive gum tissue that shows above the teeth when smiling.
At least 2 millimeters of excess gum must be showing to be diagnosed as gummy smile. Some people are born with dental irregularities that cause this condition, while others have problems with incorrect tooth eruption that creates a gummy smile later in life.
Crown lengthening involves contouring the gum tissue and bone to expose the healthy tooth. This procedure can be performed on one tooth or the entire gum line.
Reasons to choose a crown lengthening procedure include:
Tissue grafting is a procedure that addresses the opposite problem. It is used when patients don’t have adequate gum tissue. Aging and/or periodontal disease can cause gums to recede.

Gum recession can cause bone loss, root sensitivity, and tooth decay. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, contact WY Implants and Surgical Arts as soon as possible. Without treatment, gum recession can lead to further degeneration.
